What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of energy healing. The word "Reiki" is derived from two Japanese words: "Rei," which means "universal," and "Ki," which means "life energy.

Reiki is a holistic, light-touch therapy that aims to balance and harmonize the body, mind, and spirit by transferring and balancing the universal life force energy. This energy is believed to flow through all living things and is thought to be the vital force that sustains life.

In a Reiki session, the practitioner acts as a conduit for this universal life force energy, using their hands to channel and transmit the energy to the client. The client typically lies down or sits comfortably, and the practitioner places their hands on or above specific positions on the body, allowing the energy to flow through them.

How Will I Feel After Reiki?

After a Reiki session, everyone's experience can vary, but many people report feeling a deep sense of relaxation, calmness, and peace. You may feel more at ease, with a significant reduction in stress and anxiety, and a sense of physical lightness. Some people also report feeling more focused, clear-minded, and energized, with a renewed sense of motivation and confidence. You may even feel a deeper connection to your inner self and the divine.

However, it's also common for some people to experience temporary discomfort or unusual sensations after a Reiki session. This can include headaches, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, or an overwhelming urge to cry. You may also experience physical symptoms such as sore throats, muscle aches, diarrhea, or gas. While these symptoms may seem uncomfortable, they are actually a sign that the treatment was effective in releasing any blockages or toxins from your body.

What Can I Expect to Feel During My Reiki Session?

During a Reiki session, you may experience a range of sensations, including hot, cold, and tingling feelings. These sensations are a common and natural part of the Reiki experience, and they can vary from person to person.

Hot Sensations:

If you feel a hot sensation during your Reiki session, it may indicate that your body is releasing tension or blockages. This heat can be a sign that your body is working to clear out stagnant energy and promote healing. Some people may feel a gentle warmth, while others may experience a more intense heat. This is a positive sign that the Reiki energy is flowing and working to restore balance to your body.

Cold Sensations:

Cold sensations during Reiki can be a powerful sign that your body is receiving and integrating healing energy on a deeper level. It often means you're entering a calm, receptive state where the energy can do its work more fully.

At the same time, coldness may appear in areas where energy is blocked or stagnant — often linked to old injuries, scars, surgeries, or places holding lower vibrational energy. Reiki flows intuitively to these areas, supporting release and restoring balance.

Many people notice that once the energy clears, warmth returns — a gentle sign that healing and energetic flow have been restored.

Tingling Sensations:

Tingling sensations are also common during Reiki sessions. These sensations can feel like a gentle buzzing or vibrating, and they may be more pronounced in certain areas of the body. Tingling sensations can be a sign that the Reiki energy is stimulating your body's natural healing processes and promoting relaxation.

Other Sensations:

In addition to hot, cold, and tingling sensations, you may also experience other feelings during your Reiki session, such as:

  • A sense of relaxation or calmness

  • A feeling of lightness or floating

  • A sense of connection to your body or the universe

  • A feeling of emotional release or catharsis

  • A sense of clarity or insight

Remember, every person's experience is unique, and the sensations you feel during your Reiki session can vary depending on your individual needs and circumstances. Trust that the Reiki energy is working to promote healing and balance in your body, and allow yourself to relax and receive the benefits of the treatment.
